Grey Fox Tutor Profile
Erik O., M.A.
University of Chicago - Humanities (Classics focus)
University of Colorado - Classics & Linguistics
Erik specializes in Latin, Ancient Greek, and American Indian languages. He enjoys working with students of all ages. Erik is a true polyglot with at least a working knowledge of over 30 languages. A former contractor, he also plays three different kinds of flute (two Korean and one Irish), and he can hold his own at a ceilidh.
Grey Fox provides instruction in a wide range of modern languages, including the more standard (French, Spanish, Italian, German, Mandarin) and the niche (Irish Gaelic, Mongolian, Navajo, Yiddish). As with our classical, ancient, and archaic languages, we encourage our students to approach modern languages in a dual fashion, focusing equally on conversation and grammar. Too often modern languages are taught with a nearly 100% conversation-based approach, despite the fact that students never attain true fluency without a clear understanding of the language's grammar and its similarities too and differences from English.
- Modern Greek
And many others, from Arapaho to Quechua to Welsh.
